Department Responsibilities
Computer Graphics Department Chair
The Advanced Technologies Academy is a magnet school located in Las Vegas Nevada. The school opened it doors in the fall of 1994 with a student population of just over three hundred and fifty. The school and the student body have grown over the last twelve years to a population of twelve hundred. To handle this growth in the student body the school has expanding by adding a new gymnasium and wing. The new east wing opened in 2000 and this expansion included twenty new classrooms and science labs, lecture hall, and state of the art video production studio.
As the department chair during this time of growth it was my responsibility
to provide technical information to the administration on the construction
and development of the Graphics Department Labs and video production studio.
This information included current hardware and software for each of the
graphics labs the size and shape of the video production studio, control
room, edit room, and attached classroom. I also had the added duty of researching
and ordering other key components of the studio this included: lighting,
cabling, wall mounts, switch bays, and furniture. Today the Computer Graphics
Department and the Video Production studio is a vital part of the Advanced
Technologies Academy’s success.
As the Computer Graphics Department Chair for the past seven years my duties included but were not limited to; creating yearly teaching schedules for five faulty members, overseeing budgets, determine department equipment needs, writing and reviewing curriculum, and holding Graphic Department meetings to decimate information provide by the administration.
When I started my career at the Advanced Technologies Academy the Computer Graphics Department consisted of two graphics design labs and one CADD lab. As the growth of the school continued the Graphics Department emerged as one of the largest departments of the school. Today the school has three graphics labs, two CADD labs, and a complete video production studio.
During my tenure as Department Chair I was able to acquire over two hundred thousand dollars in donated equipment and grant funding into the department. This funding was able to provide new Apple computes, servers, printers and plotters, graphics software, digital camera, video production equipment, and teacher training
